The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) Unit of Region 1 Medical Center aims to equip Physical Therapy students with globally competitive skills, knowledge, and professional mindset, preparing them to be competent practitioners. The PMR staff endeavors to position the quality of training within real-world clinical scenarios, providing a broad range of diverse professional experiences.
As one of the largest government hospitals in Northern Luzon, we recognize the importance of upholding the standards and quality of education mandated by the Commission on Higher Education. It is our responsibility to deliver training that meets these high standards with integrity and excellence.
The process of revising the existing manual was both overwhelming and enlightening. This revision involved additional requirements and more in-depth scrutiny to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
Several elements made this time of revision particularly noteworthy. First, the COVID-19 pandemic introduced new demands and adaptations in our educational approach, requiring a careful balance between virtual and traditional training methods. Despite these challenges, we maintained a focus on delivering quality education. Second, the integration of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), a current trend in teaching and learning that emphasizes clearly defined learner outcomes, was a significant aspect of the revision. This approach influenced the design of the curriculum, instructional strategies, assessment methods, and supervision processes, making the revision a rewarding collaborative effort for the PMR team.
Furthermore, the revision process emphasized the importance of balancing knowledge acquisition with the development of personal attitudes, recognizing that attitude is a fundamental pillar of a competent and proficient future Physical Therapist.
